The highway, which connects three constituencies - Kitutiu Masaba, West Mugirango and Borabu - was supposed to have been constructed at the onset of Narc regime but the process was halted due to reported financial constraints.

But on Monday, Menyenya residents accused the ministry in charge and H-Young contractors for failing to give them prior notice for evacuation.

“I have received news that my house will be demolished. When government officials inspected the place, they told me I would not be affected. But I am shocked by the contractors for suggesting otherwise,” said Patrick Makana.

“A number of us have been told that it’s only a matter of days for our houses to be brought down. We will be losing millions because it’s too late for us to make a worthwhile decision in bid to save our property,” he added.

However, H-Young through spokesperson Sumrit Patel said the locals had been alerted as early as last year and the complaints were only out of ignorance.

“Last year we identified houses which are located along the roads and alerted the owners. These complaints are not justified and the process will go on as planned,” he said.
