This comes after two attacks in Garissa led to the death of 5 police officers.

Criminology expert, Peter Kizito said the biggest source of information is the general public and especially those in Garissa. He stated that the police have failed to co-exist and work together to bring an end to terrorism.

“We have failed to make use of this very important resource, the local intelligence. The government should be able to link with the locals so that every time they sense or see danger, they alert the police,” said Kizito.

The expert pointed out that it doesn’t have to be a large number of people but some few selected individuals who can also use other people, including their friends and family members to gather intelligence.

Kizito said that public mass education on the importance of working with the government to curb terrorism should be spearheaded, otherwise, police will be walking into the Al-Shabaab trap daily.
