The Chairman of Bodaboda and Taxis Association in North Rift Richard Mukhobero has asked the national government to beef security to bodaboda operators since most of them have been killed mysteriously.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Mukhobero said that there has been increased cases of bodaboda operators being attacked and killed in the line of duty at night.
“In the month of August, I lost over twenty bodaboda operators where they were killed by gangsters purported to be customers,” said Mukhobero.
“I urge bodaboda operators to remain vigilant and always ensure that they carry a passenger that they are conversant with, and if not, at least should know his/her whereabouts, such as ID numbers and where they are heading before carrying him/her,” he added.
He further urged bodaboda operators to beware of four men in suits who purport to be customers, only to turn on the operators, killing them and robbing them of their motorbikes.
“I urge the police to look into it since we are losing many bodaboda operators. They should act and prevent more deaths since it is their only source of employment and if it continues, many people will shun from joining the business,” he added.
