Appeals have been made to the government to step up the fight against cyber crime by putting elaborate measures through a legal framework.
Speaking during a meeting at Kiambu Community hall on Thursday, various stakeholders in the ICT sector said that lack of a substantial legal framework in the country to fight cyber crime has led to an upsurge in the crime.
The stakeholders who included some members of Kiambu County Assembly Technology Committee argued that cyber crime could increase further and get complicated as various sectors in the country embrace ICT.
"Cyber threat is an increasing concern even as we try to roll out our programmes on the digital platform. We have seen hackers targeting key ministries and military websites," Dr James Mbugua, a member of Cyber Crimes Attorneys said.
Mbugua called for an increased collaboration between the government and private sector players to ensure cyber crime is contained.
MCA Anne Wanjiku who is the Technology Committee chair in Kiambu County assembly said there is need to insulate ICT processes in the country.
"We need to be able to identify new threats and trends in the fast changing world of ICT and track cyber criminals to bring them to justice," she said.
