With the Jubilee administration set to implement its pledge for the free secondary education beginning January 2018, the National Parents Association now wants day secondary schools across the country expanded.
This is due to what the association's national chairman Nicholas Maiyo says is in anticipation of increased enrolment once the programme is rolled out.
Speaking in Eldoret on Sunday, Maiyo noted that existing facilities are likely to stretch subsequently affecting the quality of education hence need for expansion.
"It's a good thing that the government has finally said it will roll out free secondary school education. As parents, we fully welcome the move as it is a step towards ensuring every child has access to education as per the constitution," Maiyo noted.
"...but as much as we support it, we are also asking the government to improve and expand existing resources especially in day secondary schools to accommodate high enrolment and ensure quality education is offered to our children," he added.
The National Parents Association chairman named building more classrooms and employing more teachers as some of the issues the government needs to look into even as it rolls out free secondary education.
