Kinanie Ward Member of County Assembly, Cecilia Wavinya has called on both national and county government of Machakos to work together in improving lives of the poor.
Addressing journalists in Kinanie shopping centre on Thursday, Wavinya claimed the governments had ignored residents of her ward most of who are poor.
"I call on both the national and county governments to work together in ensuring that lives of the poor residents of Kinanie, Magatani ward are improved," said Wavinya.
Wavinya said the ward has poor infrastructure and therefore residents were not able to receive important services.
She said the county government had not repaired the roads within the ward, thus residents in the area could not engage in meaningful business as the cost of transport was high.
She urged both the governments to intervene so that the residents can benefit from services such as provision of quality medical services and clean water.
Mary Mwende, a resident, said the region had been forgotten by both the state and the county government adding that they struggle to make ends meet.
According to Mwende, women and children were the most vulnerable as the former fend for their families, search for water for many hours as the latter skip schools to assist their mothers in household chores.
Wavinya said it was the role of the state to ensure services provision to its residents and that it is a constitutional right for members of the public to be effectively served by the state.
