A water and sewerage systems company in Mavoko Sub-County has called on both national and Machakos county governments to secure more pipes to aid in the ongoing upgrading of infrastructure.
Addressing journalists in his office on Tuesday, Michael Mang'eli, Managing Director, Mavoko Water and Sewerage Services Company said the company had a shortage of pipes needed in the sewerage systems upgrading project hence need for support from the government.
"We are upgrading the sewerage system in the entire Mavoko Sub-County but we have a shortage of pipes and therefore call on both the national and county governments to support the project by helping the company secure more pipes to ensure success," said Mang'eli.
According to Mang'eli, the project is demanding given that sewerage systems in major Mavoko Towns such as Athi River, Mlolongo, Syiokimau and Chyumbi were left in poor state by the defiant Mavoko Municipal Council.
Mang'eli said they were doing an in house upgrading of the sewer lines in phases using pipes with minimum radius of 12 inches to improve sanitation and unblock sewerage systems in the entire region.
He said due to the overstretched population in the sub county, over 3,000 pipes were required to effetely see the project to its completion.
The MD revealed that the demand for the sewerage system in the region had outgrown the currently available services adding that Mlolongo Town has no sewer system as only septic tanks had been installed.
