The national government has been asked to put in place measures that will help cut down cost of medical services, not only in public health facilities, but also in privately owned hospitals.

AAR Insurance Managing Director Caroline Munene says the cost of medical services in the country is too high.

Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, Munene said high cost of medical services had led to increasing cost of medical insurance.

"Expenses of medical services in the country are too high. The government needs to reduce the cost of health care so as to cut down in insurance costs," she said.

Munene who was opening AAR Insurance Eldoret branch lamented that private hospitals were charging exorbitant fees for medical services.

"It beats logic for normal delivery to cost Sh200,000 in a private hospital and this are some the issues the government should come in and help protect the public from exploitation," said the AAR Managing director.

She however challenged Kenyans to enroll for medical insurance saying it is not meant for a certain class in society.

"Medical Insurance is for all. This narrative that Insurance is only for the rich no longer holds water as everybody can get those services," Munene noted.

"For those with the Insurance cards they should not take that as a licence to use it anytime. They need to use the services when it's very necessary so as to cut down on costs," she added.
