The Ministry of Education has assured parents and students sitting for national examinations that the exams will not be postponed in the face of the current teachers’ strike.
Mombasa County Director of Education Abdulkadir Kike said the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) oral and practical examinations began on September 28 while the written tests will commence on October 5.
Mr Kike said the Examinations for Form Four candidates taking oral and practical exams kicked off across the country adding the government has provided enough security to ensure there is no interruption.
Kike who was speaking to journalists in his office on Monday dismissed calls to postpone national exams as the strike over the 50-60 per cent pay rise entered its fifth week.
“The teachers contracted to assess the exams have already reported to the centres where the exams are on course,” he said.
“The Education Ministry assures candidates, parents and guardians that the National examinations calendar remains unchanged in spite of the strike. We are working closely with government security agencies to ensure that there is no disruption of learning or examination,” added Mr Kike.
The striking teachers, however, vowed to boycott supervision of the exams should the government fail to follow through their demands.
