The Naivasha sub county commissioner Isaac Masinde has stated that the SGR is safe even after the Monday accident that killed two workers.
In the course of the incident, a section of the railway line that is under construction from Nairobi to Olkaria came down and buried six workers.
Two of the six workers were confirmed dead on arrival at Mai Mahiu health center, while the other four who were seriously injured have since been taken to Kikuyu Mission Hospital.
Speaking on Tuesday, Masinde called for patience and he also pointed out that it was too early to blame anyone in regards to the accident.
He said the government had prioritized the safety of workers on the SGR even as investigations into the death commence.
"The project will be tasked with ferrying passengers and cargo and the government cannot take chances when it comes to issues of safety," the sub-county boss said.
Police said the two who died are John Kamau, 29, and Enock Onyambo, 25. Mai Mahiu OCPD Ezra Sambu said they have opened an inquest file.
"We are waiting for a report from the engineers on the issue of safety," he added.
Anonymous workers did blame the contractor of not addressing safety.
"The Chinese contractor is only concerned with the works but not the lives of the workers who are working in inhumane conditions," one said.
