The national government has banned all night meetings in Lamu County following reports that politicians may be using them to incite violence.
Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri told KNA that meetings were being conducted without prior notice to the police.
He noted that such gatherings could spark enmity between warring communities in the county.
"Such indeterminate meetings need to stop forthwith as they are being used to fuel violence mainly over emotive issues such as landlessness in Lamu," Mr Kanyiri warned.
Presently there are certain areas such as Tewa, which is one of the places highly affected by landlessness and the squatter problem.
I am warning politicians to desist from issuing inflammatory remarks, especially on emotive issues such as land," he ordered.
