The government has issued a temporary ban on all external trips by top government officials as the October polls near.
According to National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, the new move targeting Cabinets Secretaries, their Principal Secretaries and parastatal heads, will go along way into restraining excessive expenditure with the money instead of being channeled towards the elections.
''The nation is headed towards an expensive exercise and more money is needed to realize that and that has forced us to reorganize our budget to cater for the election expenditure,'' said Rotich in a press briefing Monday.
According to the new move, only very necessary trips will be allowed and will only be approved by the President.
The national poll commission IEBC has since submitted a 12 billion shillings budget to the treasury for approval as it prepares for the exercise.
The exercise, however, remains hanging in the balance with regards to the ongoing tug of war between the election players with the opposition alliance NASA maintaining that the election risks not happening should it's demanding to have a section of the election body officials be axed not be met.
