The government has started paying retired teachers their dues through the pensions department.
This comes after a Nakuru High Court ordered the government to pay the Sh1.5 billion owed to the teachers.
“This is to notify the beneficiaries of the above court award that Pensions Department is implementing it after receiving an allocation from the National Treasury. We are rolling it out as per the direction given by Hon. Justice Janet Mulwa of the Nakuru High Court on the 15th August, 2016,” read a statement from the pensions department.
Teachers who retired in 1999 to 2003 are the ones who will benefit from the payment.
Nakuru high court's Justice Mulwa in August ordered the department to begin the payment or else face legal action.
