The government has completed construction of 60 technical colleges.
This is according to Vocational Training Principal Secretary Dinah Mwinzi.
Dr Mwinzi said that an additional 70 colleges are scheduled to be completed by next year.
She said the government targets to have some 290 technical and vocational colleges, another 1,540 village training centres with 47 national polytechnics by the year 2022.
Speaking during the 8th graduation ceremony for the Nairobi Technical Training Institute last Friday, she said that the government has increased financial support to trainees from disadvantaged households through the Higher Education Loans Board.
She also said that the government has integrated Special Needs Education in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
“I ask trainees to apply for Helb loans, and encourage the youth to enroll in TVET courses even if they are pursuing undergraduate studies,” the PS said the.
