The national government has been called upon to increase the funds that are set aside for groups under the Uwezo Fund kitty so that the beneficiaries can engage in bigger business that can uplift their living conditions.
Addressing a number of youth groups on Wednesday at Richard Tong'i Hall, Nyaribabari Chache MP Richard Tong’i said the current funds were not enough for the groups to establish bigger projects.
“Currently groups receive up to Sh100,000 and that for sure should be increased to at least Sh300,000 so that the groups can do better bigger projects,” he added.
The legislator also called upon the beneficiaries to ensure that they repay back the loans they receive so that other groups can get the same to increase their chances of getting higher amounts.
At the same time, he observed that there was a need for more women and youths to ensure that they form as many groups as possible to access loans.
