The Government has been called upon to provide adequate insurance cover to police officers with an emphasis on those who work in highly dangerous regions.Members of the National Assembly have raised concern that officers who sustain injuries while on duty never receive adequate medical attention.
MPs Timothy Wanyonyi [Westlands], Dida Raso [Saku], Opiyo Wandayi [Ugunja] and Justice Kemei [Sigoin/Sigowet] on Wednesday stated that junior police officers are living in deplorable conditions something that has affected their work.
They said that security of Kenyans cannot be guaranteed when police officer’s welfare is poor.
Kemei and Wanyonyi, however, challenged the Nationals Police Service Commission to deal with extra-judicial killings by ensuring officers operate within the confines of the constitution.
