Cord co-principal Moses Wetangula has claimed that the government used Sh25 billion to compensate Post-Election Violence (PEV) victims from only two tribes.
Mr Wetangula said the list that was tabled in the Senate of those compensated contained names of IDPs from Naivasha and Nakuru only.
The Bungoma Senator said the government paid IDPs from the two regions Sh400,000 each, and built houses for them, yet those from Trans Nzoia and Bungoma were paid as little as Sh10,000 each.
“Trans Nzoia County has 11,000 internally displaced persons while Bungoma has 8,000 IDPs but following a list that was brought in the Senate, I learnt that the government paid IDPs from Naivasha and Nakuru Sh400,000 each and built houses for them, while IDPs in Trans Nzoia and Bungoma were paid Sh10,000 each,” said the Ford Kenya leader.
Mr Wetangula said such discrepancies were a mockery by the government in distribution of funds meant for the IDPs.
He appealed to the government to resettle IDPs who were evicted from their farms and are staying away from them so that they continue staying harmoniously.
