The government has given out more than Sh11 million as compensation to traders in Isiolo who were affected by fire tragedy.
Isiolo county assistant commissioner Otieno Okich said 571 traders who were affected by fire three weeks ago each given Sh20,000 as relief after the fire which destroyed kiosks and stores.
"The government has given a total of Sh11,420,000 to traders to help them resume business in order to cope with the harsh economic times," said Okich.
The administrator commended the traders for being patient for the government to assist them.
He assured traders that landlords, kiosks owners and hawkers whose names were registered will get their share.
Isiolo market traders' chairman Geoffrey Thuranira thanked the government for giving them a helping hand.
County governor Mohamed Kuti had promised that the national and county governments will be help the traders to rebuild the stalls to start business.
