The fund's operations director Lucy Yinda said they are working with county governments to enable the devolved units plan for the street children and families.

Yinda said the program anticipated to conclude early next month also seeks to map out urban areas populated by street families and children for inclusion in a deliberate component of the program which will see children and members of the families empowered to live a dignified life."The program will see minors established to be living in the streets re-united with their families if they have any or admitted to public children homes where they will live and access education and other basic needs which the law accords a child," Yinda said.On the other hand, the program with the assistance of the United Nation Children`s Fund will help adults enroll in polytechnics to acquire vocational skills which will enable them to legally fend for themselves and lead meaningful lives in the areas upon re-integration.Yinda addressed the press in Nakuru on Friday during a familiarization tour of the town. She said Nakuru is one of the urban areas in the country that has been grappling with an influx of street families and children in recent months.Nakuru County Chief Executive in charge of Youth, Gender and Social Services Halima Gababa said the Nakuru County Government had already constituted a 15 member working committee comprising of various stake holders to help mop the town of street families and children. This is coming against a backdrop of criminal activities in the town`s central business District that analysts largely attribute to the rising number of street families. To be the first to get updates on breaking and trending news in Kenya, send your WhatsApp number to 0792066260.
