Nkaiserry's announcement comes in after confusion gripped many Kenyans who were still unsure whether the day will be a holiday.

The question was prompted by the fact that Christmas falls on a Sunday and expected it was to be pushed forward to Monday but the fact that Monday itself is boxing day many were confused.

In a Gazette notice Nkaissery stated.

"The Public Holiday Act under section 4 provides that when a public holiday falls on Sunday the first succeeding day not being a public holiday shall be declared a holiday," The Public Holiday Act states.
