The government has delivered more tear gas to counties as a security measure in preparation for the August 8 elections.
Teargas was among the proposed security gear earmarked to deal with any possible election violence.
According to officials, lorry-loads of teargas canisters have already been dispatched to different regions authorities fear could degenerate into violence.
About 20 counties were identified as possible election violence spots and already regions like Mombasa have received the teargas for onward distribution.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery revealed that these counties have been identified through a rigorous study and adequate measures put in place to pre-empt any unrest.
“We have mapped out security conflict hotspots and developed focus mitigation strategies. Women candidates in those counties will be given security based on the situations obtaining in specific hotspots,” Nkaissery told a meeting held in Nairobi last week.
The counties identified as violence hotspots are Kisumu, Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Homa Bay, Isiolo, Bungoma, Kiambu, Kilifi, Turkana, Lamu, Migori, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot and Meru.
