Two politicians from the larger Gusii region have faulted the current move by the Jubilee government to withdraw security from some elected leaders ostensibly to strengthen existing pool of police officers.

The sentiments came amid national debate on withdrawal of security detail and guns from some coast region elected leaders including the Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho by the Cabinet Secretary in charge of security, Joseph Nkaisery.

Samuel Omwando, a former Kisii Mayor and Ainea Nyakiba, Nyamira 2013 unsuccessful gubernatorial contestant, alleged the government was exposing the leaders to insecurity a head of 2017 general elections.

Fielding media questions in Kisii county, Omwando who also failed to capture the Kitutu Chache South parliamentary seat in the last elections alleged dispossession of guns from the politicians was a recipe of impending election irregularities.

Nyakiba, claimed the security withdrawal was in bad taste since the holders had been used to it and that it was being done towards the general elections.

He called for peaceful election campaigns predicting a repeat of what was going on in the USA where rival political parties supporters were entangled in violence.

On the concluded mass voter registration exercise by the IEBC, the two leaders attributed the low turn out to reluctance by the government to issue the national identity cards to eligible youths.

Observing that Kenyans risked losing their right to demand fair distribution of national resources through non-registration as voters, the two also decried transfers of voters to suspicious destinations.

They, however, urged the residents to ensure they registered and voted in leaders of their choice.
