The government has maintained that lawyer Miguna Miguna will not be issued with a Kenyan passport ahead of his return on May 16.
According to the department of immigration Permanent Secretary Gordon Kihalang’wa wrote to Kenya National Commission on Human Right (KNCHR) saying he will not issue Miguna a new passport.
In the letter, Kihalang'wa stated that Miguna must re-apply for his Kenyan citizenship first before being issued with a new passport.
"The department cannot issue Miguna with a valid Kenyan passport as he has not made any application for the same. Moreover, and without prejudice, we reiterate that Miguna has to regain his Kenyan citizenship before being issued with a Kenyan passport,” Kihalang’wa said.
Miguna had earlier attempted to gain entry into the country but he was deported back to Canada for lacking proper document, in a incident that was characterized with drama.
Kihalang’wa was responding to a letter written by the KNCHR citing court orders.
The government was asked to facilitate Miguna's return.
