The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced new tough measures for all handlers of stalled vehicles in another bid to address the rising road carnages.
NTSA on Tuesday said any stalled vehicle must be removed from the road within an hour.
Director General Francis Meja explained key cautionary measures that need to be observed to alert other road users.
“The Authority wishes to notify the public that in line with its mandate and pursuant to section 106 (1) of the Traffic Act, all stalled vehicles on the roads must be removed within one hour upon stalling,” Mr Meja stated.
He added that all motorists and motor vehicle owners should ensure upon stalling of a vehicle, cautionary measures should be taken immediately to alert other road users.
Among the measures advised by the NTSA boss include; erecting a clearly visible signage and notifying the Authority and police about the stalled vehicle failure to which the stalled vehicle will be towed to the nearest police station at the owners risk.
“The measures include placement of clearly visible signage and notifying NTSA on 0718555666 or the National Police Service on 999/911” he stated
The latest development comes as the death toll following Sunday’s accident along the Thika-Garissa Highway rose to 21.
