Residents in Kibera’s Soweto area have a reason to smile after the government handed over 822 new houses to them.
The houses are being constructed under the Civil Servants Housing Scheme and are estimated to cost Sh1.3M to complete and people will pay Sh5,000 per month for 25yrs.
According to CS Jacob Kaimenyi, the move is part of the government’s efforts to facilitate government officers’ access decent housing as a motivation to increase service delivery.
“The development entails construction of 822 units of 1 bedroom and we expect to construct more in the next financial year,” said Kaimenyi.
Other amenities will include ample parking, green areas and roof level water tanks. The project was completed and launched on Friday.
