The government has impounded official cars belonging to two National Super Alliance (NASA) Leaders following the ongoing crackdown on the opposition leaders after the controversial swearing in ceremony of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the 'people's President.
The cars belonging to Suba South MP and Minority leader of the National Assembly, John Mbadi and Suba East MP and Minority whip Junet Mohammed were forcefully taken away by the police.
The daily nation reports that the vehicles of the two senior politicians were taken away on February 7 outside Parliament buildings.
The officers were seemingly working on strict instructions from above forcefully remove the MPs belongings from the vehicles a d sped of to unknown locations.Mbadi protested that the vehicles belong to the parliamentary service commission and the government has no mandate to withdraw the cars from them.
“These vehicles belong to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC). It's unfortunate that the police can take them away in that manner," Mbadi said.
Mbadi also said that the government is planning to impound vehicles belonging to all NASA legislators.
“I am reliably informed that vehicles of all NASA leaders in Parliament will be impounded,” he added.
The Suba East Legislator, Junet Mohammed questioned why the government is taking control of Parliament yet it's meant to act independently.
"The vehicles they took is the property of Parliament, which is an independent body. I, therefore, don’t understand why one arm of the government should cede its powers to another," he averred.
