Speaking on Tuesday in Kwanza constituency while on an inspection tour of the dams, Environment, Water and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary, Judy Wakhungu said that the initiative was aimed at ensuring the public had access to water for domestic and agricultural use.

Wakhungu added that once the dams are completed, they will help spur the economy of the county that depends on agriculture to thrive.

“The three dams will help curb the climate change effect of flooding that has affected Kwanza constituency for decades,” said Wakhungu.

Speaking at the same function, Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba said the project, which is collaboration between the government and Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) will see residents boost their livelihoods.

“This is an opportunity for residents to tap water and use it for irrigation projects for food crops and also venture into fish farming,” said the county boss.

The CS inspected three major dams; Ng’enge, Marinda and Kapsitwet, which will be commissioned early 2015.
