Even as the Cord coalition halted their Monday demo to give more room for consultations towards dialogue, a statement by State House spokesman, Manoah Esipisu urged the coalition to desist from chaotic demonstrations.
Esipisu who was addressing the media on Sunday said that the president was open to dialogue on the IEBC matter but under the confines of the law.
According to State House, the opposition is allowed to demonstrate under strict adherence to peace.
Esipisu further ruled out any possibility of the electoral reforms dialogue to be held outside parliament.
Earlier last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta convened a Jubilee coalition parliamentary group meeting where they agreed to form a Joint Select Committee and further nominated an 11 member team to spearhead talks with Cord.
The opposition is yet to name their members. The opposition claims there are some outstanding issues that are yet to be addressed before the electoral reforms dialogue takes place. It has, therefore, insisted that it wants the dialogue to be held outside parliament.
Cord further wants the membership of joint committee reviewed. They want it reduced to 7 MPs from each side with 4 joint secretaries who are not parliamentary staff.
The coalition also wants the time frame for the dialogue reduced from 30 days to 14 days.
