[Photo/nation.co.ke]Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett has announced that the government will now distribute traps to aid in the battle against armyworm infestation.Speaking in a press briefing Saturday, the CS said that the traps will be distributed to the affected maize growing villages to ensure maximum food harvest as the pests are destructive to the crop."We have come up with traps that will help eradicate the pests. They will be distributed to villages especially in maize growing areas," said Bett. The Cabinet Secretary also said that the government has a clearly spelled out and well-drafted plan to ensure that all affected farmers acquire the new device."We have a list of the affected areas throughout the country and that is what we will use to ensure that all farmers get the traps," he said.
This comes at a time when farmers in some parts of the nation including Embu county, have resorted to manual picking and destruction of the destructive pests.
