In a move to prevent a move to prevent foot and mouth diseases, the national government through the ministry of agriculture has come up with a vaccine.
According to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett, the vaccine ‘oil based Foot and Mouth Vaccine’ that was developed by the Kenya Veterinary Vaccine Production Institute will help in preventing the disease which has been a menace to farmers in the region.
“The vaccine will help farmers to reduce the cost of vaccination for over 50 percent since they will only be needed to vaccinate their animals once per years instead of three times which was very costly,” he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
“This is an initiative to boost the livestock sector since it contributes over Sh450 billion and we will make sure that farmers reap their sweat with little cost of production,” he added.
He, however, urged farmers to use artificial Insemination for them to get high-quality breeds that produce a lot of milk and also disease resistant.
