Nakuru County government is investigating a lead factory in Nakuru after eight people were allegedly found to have lead poisoning in their blood.
Nakuru County Health Executive (CeC) Samuel King'ori said that the eight workers who have already been sacked by the said firm will be tested afresh and samples taken to the government chemist.
He said the county government will cater for their treatment.
"I have already received a report and complaints from the public that there is a lead factory that is operating here in Nakuru. The Member of the County Assembly (MCA) representing the eight people who were working in that factory came here with them and we have started our investigations into the matter," Kingori told journalists in Nakuru on Tuesday.
The CeC said that once the investigations are complete, a firm legal and disciplinary action will be taken against the owners of the factory, which is said to have rebranded and is now producing different products.
"I understand that the factory had been closed two years ago and they are converting into a different industry now. We are following the matter to know whether the conversion has been authorised by the county government because it has to be approved," Kingori added.
