Deputy President William Ruto has said the government is investing in modern facilities across the country to enhance efficient distribution of semen at affordable prices.
Ruto said livestock play an important economic and socio-cultural role among many Kenyan communities, noting that it contributes to about 12 per cent of Kenya’s Gross domestic product (GDP).
“Dairy is the single largest Agricultural enterprise contributor to the national GDP at over 4% representing 12% agricultural GDP," he said.
“The demand for heifers locally and regionally is very high and therefore it is important to strengthen the National Breeding Programmes. Towards this, the government is investing in Breeding Bull Stations," he added.
The DP spoke at Jamuhuri Grounds where he presided over the Brookside Livestock Breeders Show.
