Nyamira County residents have hailed the national government for transferring county commissioner Josephine Onunga to Taita Taveta County.
The locals allege that for long periods now, Onunga had failed to secure parts of Nyamira, with levels of insecurity hitting an all time high, the latest being a case where a family was attacked and murdered in their home.
Speaking on Thursday in Nyamira town, the residents, led by John Machuki hailed the action of the government, and said now Nyamira County might be secured by a new county commissioner.
The action of transferring Onunga came after a call from Nyamira leaders and residents who said Onunga had failed to curb crime in the county.
Joseph Rotich, from Migori County replaces the outgoing Onunga, with locals optimistic the situation will now change.
“We are happy for the government‘s decision of transferring Onunga from our county, now our call has been answered since crime cases have been on the rise time from time in our county ,” saidMachuki.
They urged the new county commissioner to try his best and reduce crime rates in the county by asking police officers to patrol majorly during the night.
