Interior Cs Fred Matiang'i said on Thursday that the Government was dedicated to ensure it elimimates narcotics from the country.

"Illegal dealings will not be allowed whatsoever in the country. Drug peddlers across the country should be arrested and prosecuted," he said.

Matiang'i said bars and restaurant operating illegally should be closed down with immediate effect.

The Cs urged local chiefs to cooperate with police in identifying drug cartels and areas where the drugs are mostly sold to make it easy for police to arrest the suspects.

"Chiefs at the village levels should be knowing the people who are either making, selling or using the drugs. It is a responsibility of a chief to help police with information which will lead to the arrest of suspects," he said.

According to Matiang'i the most abused drugs include bhang and cocaine.

He was speaking in Kabete within Kiambu County.
