Residents of West Pokot have a reason to smile after President Uhuru Kenyatta launched a multi million food project set to boost food production in the region.
The Sh1.2 billion worth irrigation scheme will help boost food production and reduce over-reliance on relief food in the North Rift county which is now embracing agriculture.
Uhuru, flanked by his deputy William Ruto, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Kenyans and insisted he won’t be bothered by people who are against development projects.
“I have no time to listen to propaganda and lies spread by our opponents,” said the President.
Uhuru observed that the launched projects will help transform the lives of residents and help end perennial cases of banditry in the region.
The irrigation scheme will benefit more than 250 farmers on 325 hectares of land.
The irrigation scheme had collapsed due to lack of funds and poor management.
It was revived two years ago with the inception of the county government.
At the moment, county residents depend majorly on the scheme which has transformed the lives of thousands of locals.
He called on the Pokot community to join the new Jubilee party which he said is the only party which will unite Kenyans.
Deputy President William Ruto said the Jubilee development record speaks for itself and will be given a second term by Kenyans.
“People will be asking what Jubilee has done not propaganda. Kenyans will examine what we have done. We will be judged by what we have done, not falsehoods and propaganda,” said Ruto.
