Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has defended the decision to add more National Youth Service buses on major Nairobi routes.
Speaking in Nairobi on Thursday, Macharia said that the introduction is not something new since the buses were already operational.
According to him, Nairobi City requires 900 buses in order to provide adequate public transport to city residents.
He said the introduction of the first NYS buses was a temporary measure to deal with shortage of transport during the rainy season last month.
He further added that they had met with Matatu Owners Association chair Simon Mutai and agreed that the private sector would be facilitated to bring in BRT Buses.
MOA had earlier protested the move saying they were not consulted and that the buses would not be enough to handle the capacity of commuters within Nairobi.
