The government has revealed plans to establish the Trade Remedy Authority that will be mandated to ensure fair competition, especially from the imported products.
The authority will also work with other existing government agencies in the fight against counterfeiting and products dumping.
According to the State Department of Trade Principle Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, the government is committed to dealing with criminal elements taking advantage of other people's hard work.
"There are a lot of counterfeited products that find their way into our markets and as a government, we will keep fighting those involved using available legal avenues to ensure counterfeiting is a thing of the past," Dr. Kiptoo told journalists in Eldoret town on Saturday.
"We also have a lot of products being sold into the country at a lower price than what was bought which is referred to us dumping something we also working to ensure such product don't flood our markets," he added.
The Trade PS pointed out that Parliament had already passed the Trade Remedy act and by establishing Trade Remedy Authority, the ministry was implementing it.
"The World Trade Organization (WTO) allows the use of laws to protect a country from being destroyed by the dumping of products from other countries and this is what we are working on to promote fair competition and protect manufacturers," he noted.
