Reacting to media reports regarding his statement on Wednesday pointing at a possible state bankruptcy, Rotich maintained that the country remains financially strong, rubbishing the reports as ''fake''.

Rotich, while appearing before the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday, said that the government is facing a serious financial shortage, but is now terming the same as impossible, claiming that no government in the world has even gone broke.

''Tell me of a government that has ever gone broke,'' Rotich asked the media as is quoted by the Citizen Digital on Thursday, not considering the likes of Greece that was declared bankrupt in 2015.

The CS who, however, admitted that the government is facing an uphill economic task as a result of reduced revenue collection, said that the government is banking on its recent loan to ease the situation.

He added that the state will consider more credit in the future should it deem fit.

“The story was just that revenues have fallen behind, it was a sensational story, I have just come out of Eurobond with Ksh200 billion. In situations where revenues go down, we smoothen this by borrowing.” he is further quoted.
