The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) secretary general Dr Ouma Oluga has accused the government of failing to give its all in the ongoing doctors' strike.
Speaking during an interview on Radio Maisha on Monday, Oluga said the government had been avoiding the demands presented to them by doctors.
According to Oluga, the government had been ignoring their calls and in turn coming up with other issues, not in line with their demands.
"We presented a number of issues to the government for discussion. This includes the employment of doctors, the improvement of working conditions for the doctors, training of doctors among others but it seems the government is not ready to look at them. In fact, our strike has been labeled illegal and this has thus impeded negotiations," said Oluga.
He further accused the ministries of Health and Finance of derailing talks between the government and the doctors.
According to Oluga, the union had attended 12 meetings with the government representatives where not a single demand from the doctors was discussed.
"We had a meeting with the President in Mombasa sometime back and he called on both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance have a meaningful discussion with us. However, the two ministries avoided our issues clearly implying they are not ready to help end the strike," added Oluga.
