The government has asked the Catholic church to allow it to be part of the ongoing preparations for the burial of Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Cornelius Korir.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter while delivering messages of condolences from President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President-elect William Ruto said Bishop Korir was a great man who should be given a sendoff he deserves.
"As we prepare for the Bishop's burial, the President and his deputy have mentioned that this is a great man and we will wish that we all give him a good send-off," said Mr. Keter on Thursday.
"It's for this reason that the government has extended the heart of saying that we want to work with the church to make that day very successful," he added.
The CS who was accompanied with Deputy President-elect William Ruto's personal assistant Farouk Kibet described Bishop Korir as a great man of God who "stood the test of time' and was above all the tribal inclines."Hopefully that day our President and his Deputy will be among us so that together we can see-off the Bishop," he added.
Burial for Bishop Korir who died Monday at his home in Eldoret is scheduled to take place next Saturday at the Sacred Heart Cathedral grounds in Eldoret town as per the traditions of the Catholic church. The burial mass will be held at the Eldoret Sports club.
