The National Government including Office of the President and that of his deputy owes Nairobi City County a total of Sh69 billion on parking and land rates.
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has told the Senate committee on Public Accounts that despite him having a scheduled meeting with President Kenyatta close to two years ago, the matter is yet to be resolved.
The national assembly alone owes Nairobi county Government Sh46 million on land rates, and Dr Kidero pleaded with the Senate oversight committee to help his county get the money back so as to offer the very essential services to his residents.
“We have had meeting with the President Uhuru and I can produce the minutes of the meeting to that effect. The President directed the Treasury Cabinet Secretary to effect all payments on our outstanding dues but as we seek nothing has since happened,” Kidero said.
Kidero further said parking spaces around the President's office, Deputy President's along Harambee Avenue and Treasury buildings all belong to the City County and therefore ought to be paid for.
Other areas within the CBD that also owe City Hall include parking lots around Central Bank, KRA and that of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
However, the senate Committee chairman Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o has urged the County Government to furnish him with all the minutes of the meeting with President Kenyatta so as follow up on the matter.
