High Court Judge George Odunga on Friday ordered, the Ministry of Land to pay a firm associated with relatives of city Industrialist Manu Chandaria a staggering 19.9 billion for illegal acquisition and sub division of its land.
According to the Business Daily, Judge Odunga declined to heed to the Ministry of Lands plea that the firm Orbit Chemicals had not exhausted other options of settling the stalemate.
“In my view, the reasons advanced by the respondent for the failure to satisfy the decree are flimsy excuses meant to deny. I have no reason to decline to grant the orders sought herein,” said Odunga.
The Judge said that the government is compelled to pay the money with all the interest accumulating as from the day of the Judgment.
“I hereby issue an order of mandamus against the respondent compelling him to pay the applicant the sum of Sh. 6,015,113,000 with accrued interest from the date of the judgment till the full payment is made,” the Judge added.
Orbit founded in 1972 makes and supplies chemical products to other players in the manufacturing industry.
