Kiambu County Women Representative Anna Gatheca has said that the government is planning a mass evacuation of all Kenyan domestic workers in Saudi Arabia.
Gatheca says that the National Assembly Committee on Foreign Relations had summoned officials from Labour and Foreign Affairs ministries to discuss how the said Kenyans will be repatriated.
"We have learnt that some of them have babies there which they got at home and have no birth certificates. Travelling back here becomes hard as they cannot leave the kids behind,” said Gatheca.
She added: "The number of known Kenyans in Saudi Arabia are only those in detention centres and there are still many more locked up in private homes. We need a plan."
Gathecha was speaking on Thursday at Gathiga during a funeral of 36-year-old Joyce Wanjiru who died in Saudi Arabia mysteriously a few weeks ago.
"The post-mortem report revealed she died after she was hit with a blunt object on the head", said John Kimani, her father.
"She had also been beaten because her left hand was dislocated and her tongue had been cut and was found inside her body", the teary father added.
Gathecha warned residents against seeking jobs in the Middle Eastern country, which is now suspended, saying that the State is working on a legislation that will regulate foreign jobs.
