The national government will support Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) through modernization of equipment and enhanced allocation of capital expenditure.

Ministry of Health Principal Secretary Julius Korir says modernisation of the facility's equipment will enable the hospital to realize its mandate as a referral facility.

“MTRH has played a major role in reducing the burden of healthcare in Western Kenya. The government is proud of this and will extend its full support to MTRH so that it can be the best in East and Central Africa,” he said.

He added that although MTRH had benefited from first round of the Managed Equipment Services (MES) through the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), digital x-ray machines, mammogram, 64 slice CT-scan and dialysis machines, upon evaluation, more resources will be given to the hospital in ICU & HDU, dialysis, theatre, CSSD including upgrading of the CT-scan to a 128 slice CT-Scan machine.

“We will improve the quality of your infrastructure to enable you to perform well,” he added.
