The Kenya Association of Pharmaceutical Industry (KAPI) has praised the government for the re-organization of the National Quality Control Laboratory (NQCL) board of management to be spearheaded by Dr. Wiliam Mwatu.
Following the gazettement of the new board of management, KAPI chairperson Dr. Anastasia Nyalita stated that the new Board of management will continue with the ongoing efforts by the state agency to guarantee the integrity of the local pharmaceutical market against unregulated and fake medicines.
The director of medical services Dr. Jackson Kioko who doubles up as the Chairman of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board in a gazette notice stated Dr. William Mwatu as the new NQCL Chairperson.
Appointed for a period of three years, Dr Mwatu will be assisted by eight board members including Dr John Ronoh Sitienei, Dr Irene Thiguki Kamanja, Georgina Muchai, Dr Lilian Balusi, Hellen Bosibori Okioma, Paul Munyao Mutua, Dr Simon Njoroge Muigai and Dr Edith Wakori.
The National Quality Control Laboratory (NQCL) provides quality assurance services for essential human medicines, medical devices and veterinary medicines.
“At KAPI, we are encouraged by the naming of the new NQCL Board which provides renewed impetus to the national fight against unregulated, substandard, falsified and counterfeit medicines in the country,” Dr Nyalita said, adding that, “the board composition featuring eminent pharmacists with experience on the local pharmaceutical industry and scholars are commendable.”
