Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru has raised alarm over increased illicit brew sellers who are not licensed.
Nakoru warned that police will conduct a crackdown to arrest bar owners running businesses without valid licences.
"Bar owners should apply for licences before they start running their businesses. Anyone found selling illicit brews without licence will be arrested and prosecuted," he stated.
The commissioner urged the County government to ensure issuance of licences is done in time for all illicit brew sellers to acquire the documents.
"The County government should be quick in issuing the licences to traders selling illicit brews to help police know those who are running businesses illegally across the County," he added.
He urged local chiefs to intensify crackdown on local brews such as chang'aa and busaa at the village level to save lives of youths who have ventured into consuming alcohol.
