The national government is in the process of constructing one stop border posts in major border points to improve movement of goods and services across East African states. Regional Integration Secretary in the Ministry of East African Affairs Barrack Ndegwa said such initiatives are a pointer that the government is keen to implement East African integration. “Kenyan government is committed to fully implement integration process and such steps are a good pointer,” he said. Ndegwa said once the border posts are fully constructed, time taken to clear cargo at the border points will be reduced drastically. He said the government is constructing the posts in liaison with its partners’ states in the region. Ndegwa said the exit and entry services will be handled in one location to improve on the movement of goods, services and people within the East African region. Speaking in Kisumu during a Border Inter-Counties Forum on Regional Integration, Ndegwa said there are a lot of opportunities that exist as a result of integration that need to be tapped. He said the ministry is empowering border counties' top leadership on how to tap and benefit from the integration. “A lot of opportunities exist in this integration process and the ministry is now empowering border counties on how to tap and utilize such opportunities,” he said.
