Farmers who have delivered their maize at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) might soon be smiling all the way to the bank.

This is after Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren revealed that the government will be releasing Sh500 million to pay for maize delivered at the NCPB depots across the country.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, Tiren said the cash will be available for payment before the end of this week.

The MP who was recently elected the Agriculture Committee chairman in the Nationally Assembly further said another Sh500 million will be released in the course of next week.

"Farmers who have not been paid should expect the money beginning Friday as the government has released funds to facilitate that," Tiren said.

He further assured farmers that he will use his position to ensure funds are released in time to pay for the produce delivered.

"As leaders in this region we will keep fighting to ensure farmers are paid as soon as possible because we know most of them depend on that cash to pay for the school fees now that first term has begun," noted the MP.It's estimated that farmers owe the NCPB over sh2 billion for the maize delivered so far.
