A new government report on crime incidents and prevalence in Kenya has revealed that the police are among crime perpetrators.
In the Economic Survey Report 2016, statistics has revealed that more than a quarter of all crimes reported to the Kenya police in the year 2015 involved the police officers themselves.
Recorded crime incidences have it that the security keepers were involved in 24,647 crimes, a percentage translation of 34 percent of all the 72,490 recorded cases in the year. This reveals of the shocking tallies that the people who are supposed to protect are preying on the unsuspecting Kenyans.
This official data, which was publicly released last Tuesday, also indicates that criminal activities continued to rise across the country despite billions of shillings being channelled to the purchase of security machinery and equipment.
The report also shows that police officers were primarily involved in drug trafficking cartels, criminal damages and economic crimes of soliciting for bribery for services rendered. Sadly, the uniformed officers were also on record stealing from the public at gunpoint.
