A report seen by the Kenyan media reveals that upwards of 50 students left their higher-education studies to engage in terror activities.According to the report, the students joined terror outfits like Alshabaab and the so-called Islamic State in Somalia, Libya, and Syria.Intelligence agencies in the country were able to identify some of the students before they could cross Kenyan borders and had them put behind bars.Some of the students died in combat or were killed by the terror groups.A Moi University student, Mokaya Jared, was killed by Alshabaab after being suspected of being a mole sent by the Kenyan government to spy on the group.Another University of Nairobi student was killed in Garissa University after colluding with the Alshabaab militants in an attack that resulted in the deaths of 147 students.According to the report, some of the students are being in rehabilitation centres in a bid to reform them.The report throws a challenge to security services and the government to improve on their intelligence-gathering capabilities to prevent students from joining terror groups.
